So I might have to try two new recipes this month. The first one was kind of a bust. I made something called 'Chili Casserole'. It's supposed to be made in a slow cooker and has rice, sausage, chili beans, tomatoes and spices. Maybe I just left it in the cooker too long, but lesson learned that if you put rice in a slow cooker you probably need to watch it pretty carefully and turn it off as soon as the rice isn't crunchy anymore. Because we ended up with Chili Mush. The taste was good if you could get past the texture. Scott could not get past the texture. So I guess I'll be eating this for lunch all week long. My Thanksgiving meals will be all the more enjoyable. :)
I did make something delicious this past week. I made two pies. It was my turn to bring desert for Bunco so I thought that in the spirit of Thanksgiving I'd start the pie eating early. Plus, after Thanksgiving dinner it's almost difficult to really enjoy the pie since it takes a day or two to fully digest all that turkey and stuffing. I made my mom's Dutch Apple Pie and a Pumpkin Pie. I may not be able to cook, but at least my baking usually turns out alright.
I'm hoping this cold that I have goes away soon. It's going on week two. Last night I felt really miserable but I think it had to do with the fact that my doctor convinced me to get a flu shot the other day. I've heard that sometimes you can have flu like symptoms after getting the shot. Maybe it was just the power of suggestion, but I felt bad enough to go to bed at 9:30. That's unheard of for me. :) I feel much better this morning - except for the whole can't breathe thing. Decongestants are nice though. Unfortunately I'm freaked out about taking them since my blood pressure medication warns against it. But so far I've been willing to chance it. Maybe I'll call my doctor see if I should do something else. Any thoughts from the nurses in the audience?
Scott was gone to Austin, TX last week for a supercomputing conference and came home on Friday. So it's been great having him back home. He came and went from the new Indianapolis International Airport. I never actually went in - droped him off at the terminal and since his flight got in early, drove up to pick him up too. It looks pretty impressive at least from the outside. Scott said it's pretty nice inside too. I should hope. The first half hour of parking isn't free anymore. Two bucks! But they have this thing called a cell phone lot that's not connected to the terminal that you can park in until the person you're picking up calls you to tell you they have their bags and are ready to go. Seems a little impersonal to me, but at least it's an option.
