My cousin Matt and his family came to visit several months ago. We had a great time with them showing them around town and surrounding areas. We went to Nashville, Indiana for part of the day and walked around the little shops there. We met up on the south side of Indianapolis to start with for dinner and so the guys could catch an IMAX show. Us girls headed back to Bloomington ahead of them. We had a bit of a surprise on the way... Bella started fussing and we sort of assumed she had just had enough of traveling for the day and was ready to get to our destination. She quieted down, but started up again a few minutes later. Mel was reassuring her and trying to tell her to go back to sleep when all of the sudden we hear Bella loosing her dinner all over the backseat. Poor thing had an upset tummy and just didn't quite have the vocabulary yet to let us know what was wrong. So Mel pulled over and we spent the next 10 minutes or so cleaning up. Oh and the next day or two as well. I don't think that carseat will smell quite the same ever again no matter how much febreeze they douse it in. :)I've gotta hand it to the Martinsville police. This made the second time I've had to pull over on the side of the road in Martinsville city limits and both times, a cop was there within minutes to hang out behind us to ensure that traffic moved over to the leftmost lane to keep us as safe as possible on the busy highway.
Guys are so sweet interacting with little children. It's fun to see. It can also be a bit disturbing since children will copy just about anything they do. Scott would play games with Bella to ask her where her eyes and nose and tongue were and be silly with her. Then while she was copying him at one particular instance, he picked his nose to see if she would follow. Well, what do YOU think she did?
We made it up to Goshen for Easter and a delicious feast of roasted lamb with all the trimmings of course. Not all of us have quite the same appreciation for lamb as Scott does, so while it smelled delicious the rest of us took fairly small portions and Scott got to take home lots of leftovers. We still have some in our freezer. Sue and I made some cookie place-markers while she was down here helping to take care of me after my surgery the week before Easter. I didn't end up making cut-out cookies at Christmas this year, so I used Easter as my second chance. I had gotten the egg shaped cookie cutter at some point and hadn't had a chance to use it yet. I know there are all k
inds of great cut-out cookie recipes out there and I keep thinking of trying others, but I just love the taste of the type that my mom makes the best. The cookie is a little bland by itself, but with a little frosting...yummo! I was tricky and figured out a way that I could have two cookies. Hey, my body is accomodating two people right now - what can I say?!The most recent visitor from out of town was my friend and college roommate Jocelyne! She was traveling back up to northern Indiana from Mississippi where she had been tending some cattle for the last few winter months. The cows got sent back up to Indiana for the summer and so she was moving back up with them. She's learning Organic Dairy Farming while she's based in Indiana. We had a nice dinner together and showed her a bit of our town and since my 20-22 week ultrasound was scheduled for the next morning, she was able to go with me to that as well. I wasn't able to schedule any spur of the moment time off work to hang out any longer as I would have liked, but it was fun to see her and catch up a bit on each other's lives after almost 7 years. Except... since she's been working on a farm down south for the past few months she's skinny and tan. And I'm pregnant (ie. have gained additional weight not only in my belly) and very white. Did not make for a very good photo-op from my perspective. :)
I've hit up a couple spring garage sales and have found a few things for the baby, plus my extremely generous co-worker has already bought me a few cute clothing items as well as stocked me up on a few gender neutral hand-me-downs from her grandaughter. We've started clearing out the baby's room. Moved the desk that was in there into the guest room so it is no longer my sewing room. We still have a bed in there to get rid of and a couple miscellaneous boxes to go through. Then to start getting things to equip the nursery. Not sure when to start doing that exactly. I've been looking around on Craigslist for a few things in the meantime. I'm looking to see if we can find a good used dresser that can also be used as a changing table.I'm working on finishing the I-Spy Quilt. I ended up using the first option I posted earlier for the layout. I machine quilted through the rows of white going across and then have been hand quilting in addition to that. It's probably not the greatest to mix-and-match the way you quilt it since it's not a consistent style, but I don't think the baby will mind too much. I'm still learning and practicing. Seeing what I like best. I still have a few more rows to quilt and then I can bind it and I'll share a picture of the finished product.
The rest of our time lately has been spent hanging out with friends and playing games, celebrating birthdays, church activities, lawn care and outdoor projects and run of the mill workweek activities. Life is good and God has blessed us more than we deserve.
Speaking of blessings, Scott has the opportunity to attend a workshop on Oahu in Hawaii this month. I was hoping to be able to go with him, but it being a payroll week here at work, I wasn't sure if I could get enough time off for it to be worth the trip. Thankfully I was able to get three of the days of the week off and I've got my ticket booked to go with him next week! He heads out a little earlier than I, but I'm going! I'm so excited to be back on an island again. My love of Guam still runs in my soul and Hawaii is the next closest thing - plus, who doesn't want to go to Hawaii?! I really hope I can find some fresh guava, mango and pineapple in season. The trip is a great opportunity since Scott's part is paid and I can just stay with him. So our only major cost is my flight and personal expenses (and boarding the dogs, but one of my friends agreed to watch them - another major blessing). We were able to use some frequent flyer miles for one leg of the trip as well, so I really couldn't stand to pass it up. Plus, if you've ever heard our honeymooon story, you'd agree that we're due for something a little more romantic before the baby arrives. :)
That's about the best Miss Wordy does at summarizing. You're all caught up now!
