Getting Close to being Done!

The scheduled finish date for the house is June 23rd! Then we plan to close on June 26th. Wow - it's amazing how quickly time has gone. Here's our front porch (photo taken June 6th). The door needs another coat of paint, but I'm liking the color so far. Carpet was supposed to go in on Monday - I haven't heard if that went as planned or not. Then the inside is pretty much done except for clean-up and kitchen appliances. I'm assuming they'll finish up the yard after that.Otherwise we've kept busy with all kinds of stuff. I went to a Ladies Retreat with some of our church ladies and that was a nice time of learning, encouragement and getting to know people better. Scott went to a conference in St. Louis for a few days and presented a poster of some of his research group's work. We've also done some hiking and movie going and of course, planning for the house quite a bit. Below is a picture of Tobey on one of our hikes. We went to the Hoosier National Forest where there are mostly horse/hiking trails. The horses wear ruts in the path and water collects and creates very muddy sections in the low lying areas along the trails. Scott and I worked to avoid as many as possible. Ashton and Tobey however didn't mind the mud one bit and traipsed right through it. They LOVE to hike. You can see how caked Tobey's underside is with mud. Ashton is taller and wasn't as gross by the end of the trip but not shorty pants Tobey. Boy were they ever fun to clean up when we got home. Not to mention the 'fun' removal of the 9 or 10 ticks we found on them. The weather has been particularly bad for a lot of people the past few weeks. Tornadoes and floods galore. Thank the Lord we've not been directly affected. We did have flooding in and around our town one day last week because there was so much rain in such a short period and the drains couldn't keep up. It receded within a few hours, but not without causing a lot of damage in the meantime. It all happened right at the end of the workday too so traffic was horrendous since police were closing off many roads and weren't able to tell you which alternate route to take. And we did feel a little trapped in town here last weekend since rivers rose and flooded parts of the major highways east, west and north of us. Roads were closed so that anyone here couldn't go north and people in Indy couldn't get south without going over to Ohio or Illinois or something drastic like that. But the inconvenience I experienced is nothing compared to those who had damage to their homes and other assets. My heart goes out to them. (Remind me never to live on a river or lake without flood insurance.)
