Delectible Weekend

Weekends are great. Sometimes just for laying around, sometimes for getting stuff done around the house, and others for time spent having fun with friends. And then on weekends like these you get a really nice combination of all three. Those are the best.

Friday night Scott had somewhere to be, but I was able to lay around the house and also get a few things done. Then on Saturday I came across som great finds at yard sales and a flea market held at a co-workers antique store. I got a reel lawn mower for fifty bucks (Scott's pretty sure my fascination with the reel mower is going to quickly fade), two side tables for five each, a plant stand for five and then less than five each for the rest. It was all just little stuff, but some really neat finds like a fun necklace and some earrings at the antique store, really cute greeting cards with no envelopes for 5 cents each (I've got a ton of extra envelopes), a picnic blanket that folds up into it's own carrying case and is water proof on one side, stuff like that. Scott slept in, then worked out at the gym before we met up to pick up a few things for the house - paint and supplies, since we plan to close this Thursday and want to get started right away on all the things that there are to do before we actually move in.

Saturday around 4pm we headed over to an annual festival in town called 'The Taste of Bloomington'. We've heard about it each year that we've lived here but haven't ever attended. You pay a small cover charge to get in and then a good number of vendors and restaurants from town have little stands where they sell small portions of a few select items from their menu for $1-3. So you can go around a try out several types of food at one time and try out places that you've never been to before. The concept sounds pretty cost effective but it did end up getting a little pricey in the end. I guess no more than a dinner and a movie out, but still... We figured that most places probably made more of a profit than they would on a normal day. One, because of all the traffic and two, because they could sell such small portions. It was hard to tell where you were going to get a good deal and where you weren't. But still, we went with a few people from Scott's department and we really enjoyed it. There was some really excellent food to be had. Delicious!

Then today I was able to sleep in for a while longer than on Saturday and Scott had the great idea to invite some people to go with us for an afternoon picnic at the Oliver Winery. So we met up with a few folks who had never been to the winery before and did some free tasting and then bought a bottle to share out on the lovely grounds there. We had stopped at Sam's prior to driving to the winery to get bread and cheese, so we had that with our wine and relaxed on the lawn around the pond on my 'new' picnic blanket. It was a little overcast but it provided some nice cool breezes and not an overpowering amount of sun. Very relaxing. Oh except for the stand-off with the goose. I was pretty nervous that it was going to peck Scott to death since he was ready to save us all and fight the goose, but somehow we got the thing turned around so that it could run away from us instead of hissing at us and feeling intimidated by us when we all stood up to shoo it away.

We extended the weekend of fun by inviting people back for board games. There were a couple hours between the Oliver outing and the game invite so we got in some house cleaning. If you're reading this and didn't get an invite it's either because you're too far away or we can only accommodate so many people. Let us know if you're interested in joining us for the next game night. It's sure to happen again and we'd love to have anyone who is interested. We'll have more room at the new place too so we hope you'll let us know if you can come.

We were introduced to the game 'Aquire' by some good friends of ours a few years ago. When we tried to get our own copy we found out that it wasn't being reproduced anymore. So we managed to find a 1960s version on ebay and that worked well for us. But we recently found out that they have started making it again! They've tweaked a few things of course but the premise is the same. We played the new version and it was enjoyed by all - but especially by Scott, who was the winner. Delicious brownies and ice cream rounded out the evening. Oh and I got to hold baby A. so that added to the enjoyability quotient as well.

So now we're tired and this coming week is going to be a busy one. We're buying a house! Pretty exciting and scary stuff. Pray with us that it all goes smoothly not only now but as we continue to make plans to stay in Bloomington for several years.
