I've added two new blogs to my links - it's fun to have Aubs and MJBs join the world of blogging. It's really not fair because you guys all have cute kids to keep your blogs entertaining. I have to depend on my dogs for all the cuteness and then it's just me and my ramblings to keep you coming back. That's really not much to rely on or much material to pull from. Guess you'll just have to deal with it. I suppose if I just wait long enough between blogs there is bound to be something interesting going on, right?
So yes - updates - we just went to the Astronomy department picnic today at Bryan park. It was cold outside, but overall it was nice to hang out with people. Got to see Aeli and Justin. They're cute kids. Justin is talking in words that are mostly understandable so he's a hoot and Aeli is old enough now to interact and smile in response to the things around her.Scott just got back from a meeting in New Haven at Yale. He's helping out with a project that MIGHT land him a job next year and this trip was in conjunction with that project. He was only gone for 3 days but I still missed him and it's nice to have him back home. It sounds like it went well and he ate lots of yummy food. He even ate chicken on a pizza. I was shocked. Scott is not a chicken pizza kind of guy. It must have been a pretty good pizza. He had to wake up at 3am this morning to catch his flight so he's been napping to recover from that.
It's pretty exciting to be in the homestretch of graduate school. Or at least I think we are. Scott keeps saying hopefully next fall. Maybe summer, maybe winter, maybe fall. Any of those would be fine. Preferably sooner, but I realize these things take time.
Fall is here - the trees are pretty but it's been pretty rainy and now it's cold. I'm not really complaining. I do like the change of seasons and we didn't get much rain here over the summer so the grass has finally gotten nice and green. It's just a teensie bit annoying to have the dogs traipsing in wet grass and leaves in the entry way and then wiping whatever we can off all eight paws every time they come back inside. And I need to adjust my closet to bring back in all the sweaters and long sleeve stuff. Basically I'm just lazy. There are some nice photo opportunities, but I haven't gone out and taken advantage of it yet. I need to study up on how to use my new camera. The
sky has been pretty amazing for several nights. I need to get out there sometime and try to capture it. Last night it was cloudy, but the moon could peek through enough to make this really funky effect on the sky. Kind of spooky-like, but really pretty too. And then earlier in the evening the other day, part of they sky was really gray with rain clouds but then you could see patches of really blue sky coming through too. We had a bunch of patchy storms last week so we saw the corner of a storm pass over our house. To the one side was blue sky. To the other was really nasty gray clouds approaching. They came in pretty quickly and I could see it was raining in the distance. Soon it was pouring rain and just as soon as it came it was gone again and the sun was shining. I rushed outside to find a rainbow just as I had expected. I added a picture that has nothing to do with what I was just talking about except that it's a fun picture that I took. It was taken as we were driving down the road in Kentucky (I think) on the way back from Virginia in October. I thought it was pretty neat with the sun peeking out from behind the cloud and all the fun rays shimmering about. We went back to Virginia in early October with Scott's family. This time we went a little further east and checked out Jamestown and Williamsburg. We were only there for two full days so we did the speedy tour. We didn't pay to go to all the areas of Williamsburg so we ended up getting more out of Jamestown. Pretty interesting stuff - I'd recommend it if you've never been. I've got some pictures posted on my Picasa site if you're interested.
I'll leave you with a photo of my beautiful Ashton dog. He was posing for me the other afternoon out on our deck. He's so cute. Little Tobey is pretty good at posing too, but he is mostly just crazy and full of energy. He's getting more cuddly though (and less spastic and oblivious) as he gets older.
