Vacation

The last week in September we went on vacation to South Dakota. We visited the Badlands, which were pretty awesome. We hiked around a bit and we stayed in a cabin there. Scott and I camped out two of the four nights we were there. If I had to do it over again we would stay two nights in the Badlands and then stay the other two in the Black hills. The Badlands are kind of in the middle of nowhere and there was only one restaraunt that was only open until 3pm, so we brought in some of our own food and made a few meals on our camp stove. The first day we were there it was SUPER windy and we had quite a time of getting the stove lit, but once it was on it worked very well. They don't allow open fires there so we didn't have the option of a campfire. That's one of the reasons it would have been nice to be in the Black hills for part of the time. We ended up driving over to the Black hills area twice instead. Which is a good two hour drive. The Black hills are where Mt. Rushmore is, and the scenery is completely different from the Badlands. Each are beautiful in their own way but I think I prefer the Black hills. So we went to Wall Drug for breakfast one day on our way to Mt. Rushmore, and saw Rushmore and Crazy Horse. Then the next day we went back to visit Bear Country USA and go on a hike. Bear Country was interesting and we got to see some very cute bear cubs. They are quite at home in a tree. I never knew how well they climb and how cozy it is for them up there.

Our hike was beautiful. I think it's the birch tree maybe? Anyway, it's leaves are all yellow this time of year and georgeous. The trail was great and led to a lake and the sky was a beautiful blue with puffy white clouds. Just fantastic.

And if you're wondering, yes, Scott is trying to pick GW's nose. It was a little difficult trying to get his finger possitioned exactly under GW's nose, but I think it turned out pretty well. :) What can I say, we are immature.
