(Oops, so here's something I wrote but never posted back a couple months ago. This should show up in the right order and say it was written Oct 3 but I actually found it and posted it Jan 5, 06. )
We went camping the weekend before last in our new tent. We have an Eddie Bauer one that sleeps four but the last time we camped and it rained, we had some leaking at the corners from the seams. So we decided that the Coleman's 'tub floors' might be a good idea. Menards was having their end of season sale so we got a good deal on a two person Coleman and were able to try it out last weekend. It did rain and our new tent kept us nice and dry. Not that we got super wet in the other one but you know, peace of mind and all. Plus the smaller one is easier to put up. We went to McCormick's creek and hiked to their 'waterfall' the next day. Sorry, but after the Smoky Mountain waterfalls, this thing looked tiny. But it was nice and the river was kind of fun to walk along - a bit slick but we managed.
Sunday evening Scott's parents came to visit before leaving on vacation. Scott drove them up to the airport Monday and we're car-sitting for them while they're in San Diego. But anyway, we went to see a movie with them and went out for dinner. They brought the birthday present Scott got for both of us. He had it mailed to their house because he was trying to be sneaky and thought it would get there by the time we went up to celebrate our birthdays there. Well, it was a day late so they brought it down when they came. So guess what we got?! A new camera! We were able to sell our other one to Scott's aunt and uncle and then Scott's parents contributed for our birthday so we got a pretty good deal. :) I don't have a case for it yet but I think I'll order one from Amazon. My parents got us a gift certificate for our birthday's and I've been trying to decide what to buy. That might be a good option for part of it. Thanks everyone! I had been eyeing a new camera after our Smoky Mountain trip, looking for something with more zoom and cool features. So I'm looking forward to taking some fall pictures with it. Such fun! I think it will be a good intermediate camera. Our old on is a basic point and shoot. This one has more features but is still very user friendly and does a lot of the settings automatically. Then after I get to know more about the f-stop and aperture and all that, maybe I can move on to something more complicated. I did take a class in college but need more practice and a refresher course I think.
Then this weekend we watched Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy on Friday night which was pretty funny. Scott had to help out with the Physics/Astronomy Open House at school on Saturday. I stayed home and did some housework, recycling and grocery shopping. That evening we went to a pitch-in with the ‘couples’ class from church. It was held at one of their homes and was a nice time. Most of them have kids and boy were the older ones (between 4 and 9) ACTIVE! I think they were all feeding off each other and were so noisy and running around the whole time. Yikes… The babies were cute though and I had fun taking pictures of everyone with my new camera. Scott played Bocci ball with some of the guys. A bit of a pointless activity, but I guess that’s how a lot of sports are.
