Scott’s brother was here this past weekend and it was nice to have him with us a couple days. We went on a hike on Saturday in the lovely cooling weather. It’s great to hike this time of the year – you’re not sweating buckets by the end of the trail and no bugs! Every time the evening weather cools to less than 40 degrees (4 C) Scott’s like, “ahh – we should go camping. This is perfect camping weather!” I of course think he’s crazy. 50 or 60 degrees (10-15C), I’d be right there with him. But < 40 is a little cold for me. He claims that’s what sleeping bags are for and it warms up during the day. This is true, but still...
The daytime weather is perfect these days. I love fall! Some people get depressed because winter is on its way and the trees are dying and all, but it’s SO beautiful and I don’t get depressed about win
ter until after New Years because there are all the cozy Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations to enjoy the last two months of the year. I was getting a little saddened about how much earlier it gets dark in the evening but the past few days there has been a full moon and it’s been really low in the sky early in the evening. It looks so huge just above the trees and buildings and it’s so captivating and awe inspiring. (I’ve tried to take pictures of it with my new camera but maybe my camera isn’t quite cool enough to handle getting a crisp clear moon shot. Maybe I just need a tripod…). We’re still in the process of watching through Stargate SG-1 seasons. We’re in season 4 now and watching the shows make me think more about the universe and other planets and all. How it feels so normal to have a moon but wouldn’t it be strange and kind of eerie to have two or three moons? I guess we’d be used to it. The moon and seasons always follow a similar pattern – we just take it for granted here in our little corner of the universe. How little we are in the scope of it all. Not that I really believe other planets have life forms but it’s still thought provoking to think about how big the universe is and how little we know of it. Having a husband in Astronomy also has brought this stuff to mind. I never really focused on what’s beyond our globe – there is so much interesting stuff just traveling around our world - why think about where I’ll probably never go? But it is quite thought provoking as to whether there could be similar worlds to ours out there and if there aren’t, how amazing it is how well our world has been created to support life and how well the delicate balance that keeps things functioning, works. Yes, God is amazing and I’m so glad he chooses to show us His glory in creation.Yes, those are my rambling thoughts for today.
