We've recently learned a new game - Settlers of Catan. I'd never played before and didn't really have a desire to, but after playing once we decided we liked it. Until loosing the past few times we've played...
But yeah, fun game. Scott has also gotten me started playing Guild Wars - a computer game where you can go on all these different quests with other people playing online. It's kind of a bummer that we can't play together since we only have one computer cool enough to play the game on. Oh well.Last weekend we had our monthly ladies breakfast at church and our pastor's wife shared about how she and her family try to stay away from 'un-natural' foods and eat organic or cook from scratch as much as possible. She talked about the additives and preservatives and hormones that are in much of the food we eat and how harmful they are. It all sounded like a great idea to me, but really who has the time or money to invest in eating like that? I try to do as much cooking at home as I can, but even then I depend on a can of beans or tomatoes or prepared meat or something that's just filled with sodium and preservatives. She stressed at the begining of her talk that we can't necessarily add days to our lives by eating differently, since God already has that planned out, but that health and energy allow us to serve God better. I think for now I'll do the first two things on her list of ingredients for a recipe for good health. And the others whenever possible. (I have been waking up early two days a week to walk before work with Aubrie and we do Pilates too - so even though it's not super intensive, I'm doing better on the physically fit one too.) The ingredients are:
Rely on God
Educate yourself
Cook from scratch
Incorporate nutrition
Physically fit yourself
Eliminate additives
She also used these ingredients to relate to spiritual health. R-be in fellowship with God and rely on him for our success. E-read your Bible and other spiritually educational resources. C-get back to the basics of the Gospel. I-memorize scripture to give us daily spiritual nutrition. P-being fit requires repetition - spiritually repetitiously puting off the old and putting on the new. E-eliminate sin in your life.
Interesting anyway I thought. Not sure I agree with all of the physical part of her talk, but she does have a point that most of America does not have very healthy eating habits and it seems like the long term effects of some of the things we eat could be causing a lot of our health problems. And not just diabetes and heart or cholesterol issues, but maybe also allergies, alzheimers, or difficulties with menopause. Who knows. (Mom, it may be more difficult cooking overseas, but you guys are probably healthier for it in the long-run huh?)

Settlers of Catan, hey? We've just recently been playing that too -- we have even moved on to the Knights and Barbarians expansion pack!
I also was not very keen, but friends wanted us to play, so we did and we liked it!
On the health stuff. Out of interest, have you seen Super Size Me?
